Jávea or “Xàbia”

The picturesque town of Jávea is located between Cap San Antonio and Cap de la Nao in the northern part of the Costa Blanca. At the foot of the dominating mountain Montgó, nestled in the typical Mediterranean landscape, this place is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the region. Jávea is located approximately 90 km north of Alicante and about 100 km south of Valencia.

Jávea covers a total area of 68 km² and has approximately 28,000 inhabitants.

The town began attracting Northern Europeans more than 30 years ago, and many of the former visitors have bought their own apartments and houses here. Jávea is a very attractive travel destination that offers visitors an incredible amount to see and do.

Here you’ll find some of Spain’s most beautiful golden beaches and coves, an incredibly healthy Mediterranean microclimate, and of course numerous restaurants and tapas bars that will delight your palate.

Jávea also offers numerous wines from the region and hinterland, as well as Mistela, a wonderful sweet wine.

Due to its unique location, Jávea’s climate is considered among the best on Earth. With few exceptions, neither very high nor very low temperatures are recorded. Even in January, the average daily temperature is still 16 degrees Celsius. The Mediterranean water temperature reaches a pleasant 25 degrees in summer. Two to four rainy days per month are average, although dry periods of 10 to 12 weeks are not uncommon. Additionally, strict planning regulations prevent the construction of high-rise buildings and severely limit the development of completely new residential areas, which also contributes to its popularity.

JÁVEA IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS:

Jávea Pueblo

The historic old town, two kilometers from the coast, has preserved its beautiful architecture with distinctive monuments such as the church of San Bartolomé. You’ll find numerous small boutiques and shops, as well as a weekly market with beautiful stalls. The residents are incredibly proud of their old town and decorate their streets with flowers and festive decorations for every occasion. The market hall in the center next to the church is a must on any excursion itinerary. Here you’ll always find the freshest selection of fruit, meat, and fish, and there are two bars where locals meet for daily conversation. The noise level reveals they have plenty to tell each other.

Jávea Puerto

In the port, freshly caught fish is offered every evening. There are also numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. Visit the church Dama de Loreto, which resembles the keel of a ship, or stroll along the picturesque promenade overlooking the rocky promontory of Cap de Marti. Many port residents also use the small pebble beach for their daily sunbathing by the sea.

Playa de Arenal

The largest sandy beach in Jávea is a major attraction with many restaurants, a wide promenade, and a small harbor, located on the Fontana Canal. Here you’ll find opportunities for all water sports activities, as well as bathing fun for the whole family. The shallow water of the bay is particularly child-friendly. There are also slides and climbing parks and several beach volleyball courts. The beachfront restaurants allow casual beach attire during the day and offer opportunities to party at night with live music and delicious cocktails. There’s something here for everyone.

LA COSTA ROCOSA

The rocky coast of Jávea – one of Spain’s most beautiful nature reserves

From Cap de Marti to the Granadella Bay, Jávea offers visitors approximately twenty kilometers of rocky coastline with enchanting cliffs and secluded swimming coves.

Hike along the steep slopes and visit the beautiful viewpoints like Creu de Portixol or Cap de la Nau.

Admire the enchanting nature, enjoy the fresh air and views, and look down into the crystal-clear, turquoise water.

THE MONTGÓ

Impressive and mystical at the same time

The locals call this impressive mountain the sleeping elephant.

Looking closely, you can recognize the head with its eye and the trunk that stretches into the sea.

Whether in the evening glow or during the day with light wispy clouds around its head, it always shows itself in the most varied forms. Once you’ve recognized it as an elephant, its gaze will never let you go.

Additionally, with its 753 meters, it provides protection against stormy north winds and often keeps bad weather and clouds at bay.

Dare to climb to the summit and see as far as Ibiza on clear days.

But even those who don’t want to go all the way to the top will find numerous opportunities along the way to look over the plateau of the “trunk” or over Jávea to the sea. You also have an incredibly wide view northward beyond Denia. Let yourself be enchanted by this incredibly impressive nature that the earth has created over thousands of years.

How we love it …

At “Bar Mercat” you can even have the meat and vegetables you just bought freshly prepared. Unbeatable is the homemade cake afterwards and the excellent coffee specialties. Here you can truly say: Prepared with love!
